Apple Fitness Plus is getting a major makeover in the popular fitness community app, Strava. The two companies have announced a collaboration to revamp how Fitness Plus integrates with Strava, bringing more detailed workout summaries, featuring Strava athletes in Fitness Plus content, and offering a free three-month trial to Strava subscribers. This update marks a significant shift in the way users interact with both services.

The new integration will allow users to see a thumbnail of the Fitness Plus workout, along with information like episode number, music genre, trainer, metrics, and achievements directly within Strava. This brings Fitness Plus more in line with other integrations from services like Peloton and Ladder.

Strava and Apple Fitness Plus Integration: What’s New?

The updated integration will include the following features:

  • A thumbnail of the Fitness Plus workout, allowing users to quickly identify the class and trainer
  • Information on episode number, music genre, trainer, metrics, and achievements

Featuring Strava Athletes in Fitness Plus Content

Fitness Plus will be featuring Strava athletes in its content, including daily run streak champion Kayla Jeter and Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety. This collaboration allows Fitness Plus to tap into the community-driven aspect of Strava, showcasing user-generated content and highlighting the achievements of dedicated athletes.

“Over the past 10 years, we’ve hugely admired what Strava has done to impact the fitness space, especially around community,” says Jay Blahnik, Apple’s vice president of fitness technologies. This collaboration presents a new opportunity for Fitness Plus’ reach and allows users to tap into the social aspect of fitness.

Supplemental Resource for Seasoned Athletes

Zipporah Allen, Strava’s chief business officer, notes that the collaboration is not just about motivation, but rather providing a supplemental resource for cross-training and discovering new activity types. For seasoned athletes looking to mix up their routine or explore new exercises, Fitness Plus can serve as a valuable resource.

A Bold Ambition for the Future

Both Apple and Strava have hinted at further integration in the future. Blahnik mentioned exploring new ways to share data, potentially allowing users to tap on a Fitness Plus class taken by a friend and instantly access that workout. This vision for seamless sharing and integration is exciting news for fitness enthusiasts who use both services.

A Win-Win Situation

The collaboration between Apple Fitness Plus and Strava has its benefits for both companies. For Strava, offering a free three-month trial to Apple Fitness Plus could appease users who were recently upset by the change in API terms. This move also provides an opportunity for Strava to tap into Fitness Plus’ inclusive and motivational content.
