The world of air travel is about to get a whole lot more exciting, thanks to some major announcements from Delta Air Lines. The airline has revealed plans to install state-of-the-art 4K HDR QLED screens on its commercial airplanes, promising passengers an unparalleled level of entertainment at altitude. But that’s not all – Delta also unveiled a slew of new features designed to make flying more enjoyable, efficient, and even sustainable.
As part of its CES keynote in Las Vegas, Delta showcased its vision for the future of air travel. The airline is working with Thales Avionics to install high-definition screens on its aircraft, starting from 2026. This upgrade promises to take in-flight entertainment to new heights – literally! Passengers will be able to enjoy ultra-high-definition movies and TV shows, as well as stream their favorite YouTube content ad-free.
Key Features and Partnerships
Delta’s announcement is packed with exciting features that promise to enhance the flying experience. Here are some of the highlights:
- New 4K HDR QLED screens: Delta is installing state-of-the-art screens on its aircraft, promising passengers an unparalleled level of entertainment at altitude.
- Advanced recommendation engine: The airline’s new in-flight entertainment system will feature a tailored recommendation engine that suggests movies and TV shows based on each passenger’s unique tastes.
- Bluetooth connectivity: Delta is introducing Bluetooth connectivity for its in-flight entertainment, allowing passengers to pair their personal wireless devices and stream content from their own libraries.
- Improved internet connectivity: The airline has partnered with Hughes to provide multi-network connectivity, ensuring more reliable and stable in-flight Wi-Fi.
- Do Not Disturb mode: Delta is introducing a “Do Not Disturb” feature that allows passengers to sleep without disturbance from their seat-back screen.
In addition to these features, Delta has also announced some exciting partnerships. The airline will be working with Uber to provide more efficient routes and notifications about upcoming passport expirations or visa requirements through its AI-powered Concierge chatbot.
Partnerships and Collaborations
Delta’s partnerships are designed to enhance the flying experience, make travel more efficient, and even contribute to a more sustainable future. Here are some of the key collaborations:
- Uber partnership: Delta will be working with Uber to provide SkyMiles customers with the ability to link their Uber account and earn miles and other perks.
- Joby air taxi partnership: The airline is also partnering with Joby, an eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft manufacturer, to offer air taxis from Joby in the future.
- Airbus collaboration: Delta will be working with Airbus to design more fuel-efficient airplanes and scale the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The two companies will also collaborate on hydrogen-powered flight projects.
Delta’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its goal to make 95% of its fuel consumption from sustainable aviation fuel by 2050. Achieving net-zero emissions will require a fundamental rethink of the airline industry, but Delta is taking proactive steps to lead the way.
